Testing and Treatment

Private Water supplies often require some form of treatment to comply with the standards set out in the Private Water Supplies (Scotland) Regulations 2006.

Surface supplies (i.e. stream, loch or spring supplies) can be peaty coloured and/or slightly acidic in nature.

Groundwater supplies (i.e. boreholes, dug wells) can often have elevated concentrations of iron or manganese and may also be slightly acidic in nature. Elevated Hardness leading to build-up of limescale deposits and hydrogen sulphide (eggy smell) can also be a problem.

It is best practice to install some form of sterilisation on any private water supply to protect users against the risk of bacteriological contamination such as E. Coli and cryptosporidium.

We have considerable experience of designing appropriate water treatment systems to deal with all of the commonly encountered water quality problems. We are a distributor for Shakesby and Sons who are specialist suppliers of water treatment equipment.
